From Pain to Purpose
On February 27, 2019, Jacquelon “Jackie” Gaskin and her two children, Gianna and Giovanni, lost their lives in an act of domestic violence committed by Jacquelon’s longtime partner after she made the decision to end the relationship. Their loss forever changed our family.
In the midst of unimaginable grief, we began trying to understand what had happened. We learned more about domestic violence, the warning signs that can be overlooked or misunderstood, and the barriers that often make it difficult for victims to seek help or safely leave an abusive relationship.
That journey eventually became Our 3 Memorial Foundation, Inc.
Created in 2020 in memory of Jacquelon, Gianna, and Giovanni, Our 3 began as our family’s way of turning pain into purpose. Over the years, that purpose took many forms—from survivor support and community education to advocacy, awareness initiatives, and opportunities designed to help individuals and families move forward.
Through it all, one belief remained at the heart of our work:
Safety begins with awareness.
Our logo is a reflection of where this story began. It was inspired by the three crosses placed in the front yard of Jacquelon’s home where their lives were taken. Those three crosses became a symbol of remembrance, but also of the responsibility we felt to ensure that their lives would continue to mean something beyond the tragedy of how they ended.
As a family-led memorial foundation, our work has seen many phases. Most recently, we have become smaller and more intentional. Our focus is preserving the legacy of our three, educating others about domestic violence, and creating meaningful opportunities for remembrance and impact.
Our 3 has always been about more than the tragedy that brought us here. The lives of Jacquelon, Gianna, and Giovanni changed our family forever. Their absence is part of our story, but it is not the whole story. Through education, remembrance, and intentional acts of legacy, we honor their memory by giving purpose to the love that remains.
